The longest running and highest profile independent video game festival, summit, and showcase is the Independent Games Festival. It is a part of the 2015 Game Developers Conference which will be held from March 2-6, 2015 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA. If you would like to follow in the footsteps of previous prize winners such as Spelunky, Fez, Braid, Minecraft, Limbo, World of Goo, and Castle Crashers, now is your chance. Submissions are now officially open.
The deadlines for the Main and Students Showcase categories are October 22, 2014 and October 31, 2014, respectively. The finalists will be announced in January 2015 and the games will be playable at the IGF Pavilion on the Expo Floor. These finalists will be competing for over $50,000 in prizes. Other awards include the Excellence in Visual Art, Audio, Design, and Narrative Awards, each with six finalists and the winners of each category getting $3,000. There will be six finalists for the $30,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize, eight finalists for the $3,000 Best Student Game award, eight finalists for the $5,000 Nuovo Award which honors ‘abstract, shortform, and unconventional’ games, and the $3,000 IGF Audience Award.
