One of the highlights of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold is it’s Games With Gold program. This provides you with free games every month, at least one for Xbox One and 2 for Xbox 360. And if you’re like me and have both consoles, but only keep one connected at a time, then you can still download all the games from xbox.com and they will queue up for you and be ready for download whenever you plug in the other console. I did this before I got my Xbox One and had a nice little library all ready and waiting for me when I finally picked up the console.

Let’s look at what January’s offerings are:

For Xbox One, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die is available for the entire month. Normally $14.99 this game features a time traveling detective that has to solve his wife’s murder before he can prevent it. It seems a bit on the odd side, but it also looks pretty interesting…and it’s free. Give it a go!

There are, as usual, two available tiles for the Xbox 360. One at the first half of the month, and one during the tail end.

From the 1st through the 15th you can pick up the racing game MX vs ATV Alive, normally $19.99.

“Own the competition as you wrestle for position with tightly contested racing in the fifth iteration of the MX vs ATV franchise. Feel the realism of the revolutionary real-world physics engine which has defined the racing genre. Live the sport as Alive captures the spectacle of motocross and the essence of competitive racing while providing the best riders and gear from the latest manufacturers.”

From the 16th to the 31st, one of my favorite games is up for grabs. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, normally $29.99, it’s a great way to get yourself geared up for the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in May.

“The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings features a thoroughly engrossing, mature storyline that defines a new standard for realistic,non-linear game narration. In addition to an epic story, the game features a complex combat system that uniquely combines deep tactical elements with dynamic action.”
