Summer blockbuster season is here, and in between vengeful synthetics, and talking raccoons, angry gods, and wall crawling teenagers, a horror author once again rises, to bring us hope, and a very, very interesting tale.
America’s favorite scary storyteller is back, as Sony released today, the first trailer for Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. The theatrical take of a series of books that I have not finished reading, yet.
For those of you who haven’t been following the saga that is The Dark Tower, the movie was stuck for a bit in development hell. It first began as a project involving JJ Abrams, then was to be a trilogy that consisted of 2 feature films, with a 2 season television series set to bridge the gap between the movies, this to fell to the wayside when Ron Howard was not able to be secured to helm the project. But finally after a few missteps and release delays, we will finally get to see Ildris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Walter O’Dim, aka The Man in Black, aka The Walking Dude, or as us fans of The Stand know him, Randall Flagg. As much as I would love to explain The Dark Tower you are here for the trailer, and so you will have it.

The movie itself will be a loose adaptation of the series of books, blending the first novel in the series The Gunslinger and the third book The Wastelands along with taking key story points from King’s The Wind through the Keyhole. For anyone wanting to understand the story behind the movie, The Dark Tower doesn’t release until August 4th of this year, and you’ve got just over 4 thousand pages to read. Interested? Click the link and the wiki will show you the way.
